What Alate for Brands does
Alate for Brands is a Shopify app for clothing brands. You add the sizing details Shopify doesn't store, such as size charts, fit offerings, model sizing and fabric. Alate then uses them to answer "what's my size?" in two places.
- On your product pages, through the Alate Size Finder block.
- In the Alate app, for shoppers who paste one of your product links.
Your catalogue, prices and stock stay in Shopify. Alate reads them when it needs to and doesn't keep a copy.
Install
- Write to partners@tessellate.co.in with your store's URL. During early access we send you a private install link, because the app isn't in the public Shopify App Store yet.
- Open the link while you're signed in to your Shopify admin, check the permissions (listed below) and install.
- The app opens inside your Shopify admin. It has four pages: Home, Products, Size charts and Settings.
Home: three steps
Home shows a checklist called Set up in three steps. It disappears once all three are done and comes back if one of them needs attention again.
- Add your size charts takes you to Size charts.
- Tell Alate who you serve takes you to Settings.
- Finish the products that need it takes you to Products.
Below it, Show the size finder on your store checks your live theme and shows whether the block is on it (see Add the size finder).
Size charts
Size charts holds everything Alate uses to answer "will it fit me?" for your products. Each chart has a name, the sizes, a unit (cm or inches) and what it applies to, which can be one product, a collection or the whole shop.
Import instead of retyping
Tap Import size charts and choose where Alate should look.
- Scan my product descriptions looks through your product descriptions for size tables.
- Paste a table lets you paste the HTML of a size chart, for example from your size guide page.
Nothing is saved until you've reviewed it. Check each row and save the ones you want.
Use body measurementsThe size finder on your product page works from body measurements like chest, waist and hips, rather than the garment's own measurements. A product only shows the button once it has a chart with body measurements.
For now, applying a chart to a collection needs the collection's ID. We're adding a way to pick the collection from a list.
Who you serve and defaults
In Settings you'll find two sections.
- Who you serve. Tick the kinds of shoppers you design for, such as tall, petite, plus, wide or modest. Alate uses this to match your brand with shoppers whose body profile fits.
- Defaults. Set the Measurement unit for new charts (centimetres or inches) and a default size chart for any product that doesn't have its own.
Products
Products shows how many of your products are ready for Alate shoppers. You can search, see each product's size chart, sizing data and status, and set fit offerings on several products at once. Open a product to edit it.
| Section | What to add |
|---|---|
| Size chart | Keep the chart it gets from a collection or the shop default, add one just for this product, or pick a different chart. |
| Fit offerings | Anything you offer outside your standard range, like tall or petite sizes, longer or shorter legs or sleeves, extended sizes and made to measure. For each one you can add the extra length, price difference, lead time and how to order. |
| Model sizing | Model height, Model wears size, and Notes (optional), for example "Model sized up for a relaxed fit". Alate uses it to tell shoppers where the piece lands on them compared with the model. |
| Fabric | Paste from the care label to fill the fibre composition, and say how much it stretches: none, some or lots. |
| Availability | Tick We won't restock this product and Alate stops offering back-in-stock alerts on its sold-out sizes. |
| Sizes past your range | How many Alate shoppers in the last 90 days were outside your size range and said they'd want a bigger or smaller size. You see a number only, with no names or measurements. |
Add the size finder to your theme
On Home, the Show the size finder on your store card checks your live theme. Use its link to open the theme editor with the block ready to add, then press Save.
You can also add it yourself. Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize, open a product template and choose Add block → Apps → Alate Size Finder. Put it near your size selector and press Save.
- The block has one setting, Button label (default "What's my size?").
- It takes on your theme's fonts and colours.
- It only works on product pages, and stays hidden on products that don't have a body-measurement chart yet.
What shoppers see
When a shopper taps the button, a panel opens with the line Answer with the size chart of this exact product. They then have two options.
- Enter your measurements. They type in their chest, waist and hips in cm or inches, and their height if they want, then tap Find my size. They see your size label and a note on the fit, and the panel tells them if that size is sold out.
- Use my Alate profile. They connect the Alate app (Android only for now), approve on their phone and get a size from their saved profile.
The panel tells shoppers: Sizes are calculated by Alate. Your measurements are used once and never stored or shared with this store. Your store only receives the size.
In the Alate app, anyone who pastes your product link gets a fit card that uses the same data, along with your fabric details and model sizing.
Permissions the app asks for
| Shopify access | Why |
|---|---|
| Read products | List your products in the app, and import size charts from descriptions. |
| Read product listings | Read the products published to your store. |
| Read inventory | Show whether a size is in stock. |
| Read themes | Check whether the size finder block is on your live theme. |
| Storefront: product listings, inventory and tags | Read a product's details, stock and tags live when a shopper asks. |
Alate for Brands only reads from your store. It never changes your products, theme or orders, and it doesn't ask for customer data. The privacy policy has the details.
Uninstalling
Uninstall from Settings → Apps and sales channels in your Shopify admin. The block comes off your store with the app. Your store's connection and everything you entered (charts, offerings, product sizing, settings and the sizes-past-range counts) are deleted straight away. Anything left is erased when Shopify sends its erase request 48 hours later. The app never changed your catalogue, theme or checkout, so there's nothing to undo.
