Alate guide

how to use alate.

Everything from your first fit check to telling us how it fit.

Matches the app as of October 16, 2026

Getting started

Alate is in early access on Android (Google Play testing) and iPhone (TestFlight). Write to us and we'll send you an invite link.

  1. Open Alate. The first few screens explain what it does without asking you anything.
  2. Confirm your age. You need to be 16 or older, or 18 or older in India.
  3. Read how your data is handled and tap I agree. You can also choose to share usage statistics. That's off unless you turn it on.
  4. You don't need an account. The body questions come up when you do your first fit check.

Your body profile

The first time you check a fit, Alate asks you eleven questions. You answer each one with a tap.

Your answers are saved on your phone and you can change them in Profile. If you do, your older fit checks are checked again the next time you open the app, starting with the newest.

Know your exact measurements? You can enter them as numbers, scan a tailor's sheet or share them with someone. These are Advanced features you can ask for (see Advanced features).

When you find something you like in an online store, get the link into Alate whichever way suits you.

Share links from a brand's own app work too, because Alate follows them through to the product page. A link to an app store page isn't a product, so Alate will tell you that instead.

Alate sizes clothing for now. It doesn't do shoes yet.

Reading the fit card

Every fit check turns into a card. This is what you might see on it, from top to bottom.

Part of the cardWhat it tells you
Size to tryThe size that's likely to fit you, in the brand's own sizes. That could be EU 38 or IT 42, or S, M and L, depending on the brand.
ConfidenceHow sure Alate is and why. The size might come from the brand's own chart, the garment's measurements or a general chart. If it's a general chart, the card says so and won't call the size sure.
Works for youWhere the piece suits your body, with one point per line.
Watch-outsWhere it might be tight, loose, short or long on you. If there's nothing to mention, the card says "Nothing to flag".
The model and youIf the store lists the model's height and size, Alate compares them with yours, for example where a hem lands on you compared with the model.
FabricWhether it's lined, knitted or woven, or cut on the bias, and how much it stretches, springs back and drapes.
See-throughHow sheer it's likely to be, based on buyers' answers and a look at the store's product photo.
What buyers sayNotes like "7 of 8 buyers say the sleeves run long". These only appear once at least five people have answered and most of them agree.
StockWhether your size is in stock right now.
Budget chip$, $$ or $$$ compared with the budget you set, converted to your currency.
Outside the rangeShown when the brand doesn't make your size. You can tap to say you'd have bought a bigger or smaller one. The brand only sees a count and never who you are.

AI doesn't write your card. The wording comes from fixed rules applied to the brand's data and your answers. We use AI to read product pages and photos (for colours and how sheer something is), and to read a tailor's sheet if you scan one.

Tap View on store to go to the product and buy it there. Alate doesn't take orders or payments.

Sold out, slow stores, missing brands

Your size is sold out

Tap Notify on the card. Alate checks the product again about every six hours and tells you in the app when your size is back. If you're signed in you'll get an email too. The option doesn't appear if the brand has said it won't restock that piece. When a fit check has been sold out for 45 days and isn't coming back, you can delete it for good.

The store is slow

Some stores take longer to load than you'd want to wait. Alate will let you know, then keep trying in the background for up to six hours. You'll get a note in your notifications when the card is ready, or if the page couldn't be read.

The brand isn't supported yet

Tap Notify me when added and we'll tell you in the app when it's supported. If you're signed in we'll send one email as well.

The store asked not to be read, or blocks us

Some stores have asked us not to read their pages, and some block automated reading. For those, Alate stops and gives you a link to the store instead of a fit card.

Home: your fit checks

Bought it, and how it fit

  1. On the card, tap Bought it and choose the size you ordered. Alate's suggestion is already selected.
  2. Once it's arrived, the card asks How did it fit? Tell it whether it was too small, just right or too large, which size you got, and where it didn't fit. You can also say whether it was see-through and how the length or sleeves turned out.
  3. Your bought pieces are kept on the Pieces page, and move with your account if you're signed in. Any note you type stays on your phone.

When you say a piece was too small or too large, or answer about see-through, length or sleeves, we get that answer without your name or account. Those answers are where the "what buyers say" notes come from.

Budget

Set a budget range in Profile. After that each card shows a $, $$ or $$$ chip in your currency, so you can see how a piece compares with your budget.

Signing in and syncing

You don't have to sign in. If you do, it's with Google, and you'll find your body profile and any exact measurements, budget, fit-calibration garments, last 50 fit checks and up to 100 bought pieces on any phone you sign in on.

Signing out removes that copy from the phone but keeps it in your account, so it comes back when you sign in again. To remove it for good, delete your account (see below).

Advanced features

We turn Advanced features on when you ask, for one email address. They work on any phone where you're signed in with that Google account.

Asking for them

Go to Profile → Measurements, tap Enter your measurements and send the request. You'll get a note in your notifications once we've turned them on.

What they are

Notifications

Alate keeps your notifications inside the app. You'll find one there when a size is back in stock, when a brand you asked about is supported, when a slow fit check is ready, or when Advanced features have been turned on. If you're signed in, restock and brand notices are emailed to you as well.

Your data and deleting it

Your body profile and fit checks are stored on your phone. Each fit check sends your profile to our server to work out your size, and it's deleted as soon as that check is done. There's a short summary of what Alate uses on the home page, and the full details are in the privacy policy.
